WORK-CULTURE– A KEY TO SUCCESS OF AN ORGANIZATION

“Every individual has the potential to perform if he or she gets proper motivation, the right opportunity and the freedom to work.”

“By giving the right kind of inspiration, excitement and motivation, an ordinary person can perform extraordinarily.” I believe this should be the core of our work culture. This culture cannot be achieved by accident; rather it should be achieved through a defined strategy for high involvement and a measurable action plan. The organization should provide excellent motivation to every individual to put in his or her best performance in an enthusiastic and charged up environment that sans any fear of failure. The individual, who lag behind should not be degraded or sacked but needs to be counseled, encouraged, trained and appropriately motivated to do better. Constant communication on individual performance, company’s overall performance keeps employees updated and motivated.

Companies are encouraging employees to be more responsible and act and think like owners. They are also encouraging teamwork and the formation of teams as a strong culture is one in which they work together effectively, share the same values, and make decisions to meet the organization’s primary goals and objectives. Microsoft’s employees are empowered to do their job, the company encourages team spirit and do not focus on hierarchy.

“I wouldn't dream of working in a company whose work culture is inflexible and dogmatic.” Says a twenty-something software executive. “There is nothing wrong in having a little fun and celebrating our successes, so long as the deadlines are met and the goods are delivered.”

Though the usage of technology is on an unprecedented high– with the information technology and web power controlling everything from resource planning to customer relationship management, the major factor for a successful organization is not technology but, it is its employees–the motivated workforce. Promoting a culture of learning and knowledge sharing to do things in a better way is the key to a successful organization. The burden is on the management to foster an environment of co-operation and team play. In this generation of hi-fi technology, the traditional communities such as the family, neighbourhood and religion are weakening; the workplace shall be filling a void and gratifying the need of an individual to belong to a community. Ideal work culture promotes bonding and a sense of belonging.

Every organization has its own culture that evolves over time and is based on values and vision that are unique to that organization. In short, the workplace should be an ideal equilibrium of work and play, where the employees get opportunities to grow professionally as well as personally.
